Pictogram and Wayfinding Design for Company Gardens
The Company Garden mostly frequented by families and children is popular for it's natural flora, leisure and playing space, along with a quiet serene environment away from the City. The aim was to evoke the energy of the Garden in the Wayfinding design while also providing tools of navigation.
The Pictograms
Developing the Pictograms
The final pictograms were developed from referencing real life objects, fauna and flora. The aim was to design clear symbols that communicate effectively.
Pictogram style
The pictograms are made up of geometric shapes and consistent lines making them uncomplicated. The colour scheme emulates the gardens vibrant energy and nature.
Wayfinding System
The challenge was to combine the pictograms, their labels and direction in a simple way that clearly communicates. The shorter signs are designed to breakdown the information, separating the symbols, text and direction adding to readability of the sign. Using a white plastic material, the pictogram, direction and label stand out plainly.
The materials used: concrete, wood and hard plastic, were chosen to integrate with the garden and highlight the information.
